The Boranup Karri Forest is found in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, approximately 20kms out of Margaret River in Western Australia’s South-West. These Karri Trees are native to the South-West of Australia. Some of these Karri Trees can grow to 80m in height and live for up to 300 years, although much of the trees in this particular forest are under 200 years old.

While we were down south recently, Clint Baker and I spent a couple of hours here wandering around between the trees shooting photos, looking for the perfect composition. We were initially shooting the local beaches in the morning, but it was too overcast to really get anything decent, which is why Clint suggested we head into the forest instead. It turned out to be a great idea, relaxing, and something new to take photos of for a change.

To be honest, I found it quite difficult to find a composition I liked, but in the end I was lucky enough to find an angle to shoot from that worked for me. The photograph below is a stitch of roughly 8 images, shot with the Canon 5D Mk II and 50mm lens.

I’d love to get back down to the Karri Forest in Boranup to shoot some more photos. I think I could easily get lost in there for hours on end without a worry in the world.
