Matilda Bay Sunset 24/11

Matilda Bay Panoramic, Perth WA

Canon 5D Mk II + 17-40mm F4 L USM @ 40mm, 2.5 Seconds, f/18, ISO50

A couple of nights ago Simon Beedle and I took a drive around the Swan River and ended up at Matilda Bay to shoot the sunset. We had been watching these amazingly large, puffy white clouds all day, and new that we had to be in the right spot to photograph them.

We were not the only photographers with the idea that Matilda Bay was the right spot, as there were a few of us around with our tripods and large cameras. One of the other photographers turned out to be Mark Stothard, someone whose blog I have been reading for a while, so it was nice to meet him.

It was a tough composition, trying to capture the clouds in frame, while still having some kind of foreground interest…

As always, I’d love to hear your comments!

SS Decoy - Perth, Western Australia

I have wanted to shoot this angle of Perth including the Decoy for a while now, and the other night I finally got off my ass and drove down to South Perth. I think it might be better at sunrise, so I’ll have to return here early one morning, maybe over this coming week if any other Perth photographers wants to join me?

It’s a 7 photo stitch with the 5D MkII and 50mm lens. It came out at about 60″ at 300dpi, which will allow for a generous sized print.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my photographs!

Pinnacle Lookout, Border Ranges 30/3

After trekking through the Brindle Creek rain forest track for a couple of hours taking photographs of the creeks and trees, Emily and I moved further around the mountain to the Pinnacle Lookout.

The Pinnacle Lookout is located in the Border Ranges National Park in Northern New South Wales and is only a short walk from the main road that loops around the mountain. On this particular day I was pretty lucky with the cloud formations.

Shortly after taking this photo we crashed Emily’s car into a tree and wrote it off. Luckily neither of us were injured too badly.

Last night I met up with a fellow Gold Coast photographer, by the name of Darren Tierney, to shoot Tallebudgera. Initially I thought the light was pretty average, but all of a sudden the sky began glowing with pink and orange hues, and faded out shortly after. We managed to get a couple of photos we were happy with, and this is one of mine.

I’ve just been digging through some old files and I came across this photo I shot before a pretty stormy night in Perth a couple of years back. I reprocessed it and am really happy with the way it has turned out.

Perth, Western Australia.
